GO set : Glamour Racing

Here is a box that stands out from the others in the Carrera catalog. A glamorous box appears this year. The term glamour in French comes from the English glamour which refers to the shine beauty charm.

Immediately upon seeing the box, we realize that the design of the packaging is not usual. Glitter, stars, a fresh and summery duo of pink and turquoise colors evoking islands, travel, party. Let’s see if the interior reflects what the packaging promises us.

On the back, we can already see more precisely some details that make this box glamorous. The electric purple color makes its appearance and gives color to the loop, the barriers and the levers. The cars are found in a chrome pink and turquoise. We see ourselves in it!

The track

On the track, we have a small difference compared to the standard Carrera GO curves. The border decorations are not red and white, but simply white.

One less color, it is a source of savings in manufacturing. OK, I can understand, too bad that white was not replaced by a Glamour color to go to the end of the theme. A silver or gold paint would have been perfect.

The loop has the right to a color customization, with a new color “electric purple”. Last year Carrera had already proposed new loop colors with orange for Hotwheels, red for F1 RedBull and blue for Sonic. We can always recall the debate on loops, useful or not on a racing circuit, but it is there so let’s deal with it and it will please the fans, the others can always remove it and use the other circuits proposed on the back of the box without loop.

The outer barriers of the bends also have the right to “electric purple”. This is the new 2024 barrier model that is also offered, with a barrier offset by 5mm from the edge of the track to facilitate the passage of slightly wide cars. There are few custom colors for the soft rubber barriers. The standard is red and gray, it is the pack sold as an accessory. Only the Cars sets have had the right to custom colors such as light green and sky blue.

Just before the finish line, there is a small narrowing rail that allows only one vehicle at a time. Be careful not to get knocked off the track, some great rickshaw duels in perspective.

The cars

The cars, we are not going to miss them, we have the chrome pink with silver headlights, rims and spoilers. Magnificent. The silver is not chrome and it stands out from the bodywork and it is very good. The second car which on the box seems turquoise is rather green and it is very successful especially with the gold color of the headlights, rims and spoiler. There is no denying it, we are in the glamour.

However, be careful, the slightest fingerprint can be seen on the chrome and beware of road exits and rubbing on the bodywork, the slightest scratch will be seen on this surface.

To protect your bodywork, you can use the sheet of stickers provided. Very thick stars that can act as shock protection. We have 6 large gold stars, 6 large pink stars, 10 small silver stars and 10 other pink ones. We will avoid pink stars on the tone-on-tone pink car. Be careful, overusing stars is dangerous for the weight (as well as the aerodynamics) of the car and its racing performance.

On the track, the cars are a little wider than the average Carrera vehicle, which has the effect of hindering overtaking in the bends, the cars can touch each other and in some cases, a bit like in the narrowing, a car can be ejected from its lane.

The controllers

We haven’t talked about one element that got a color change; well two elements, the controllers.

From memory, this is the first time since the new version of controllers that I see a color customization of the controllers. Previously the Cars boxes had this chance, with green and red controllers.

Even the top push button and the turbo trigger got a color change.

Cousin sets

The VR46 Ultimate Racing (Valentino Rossi) and Glamour circuits have a lot in common. The circuit layout is strictly identical. Each has the new 2024 features with the new colours of the supports, the new barriers offset from the track, but above all the same base of vehicles where only the colour and the decoration change.
