3D printing or three-dimensional printing is the “general public” term for processes for manufacturing parts in volume by adding or agglomerating material. In industrial language, the term additive manufacturing is preferred. 3D printing makes it possible to create a real object: a designer draws the 3D object using a computer-aided design (CAD) tool. The 3D file obtained is processed by specific software that organizes the cutting into slices of the different layers necessary for the production of the part. The cutting is sent to the 3D printer which deposits or solidifies the material layer by layer until the final part is obtained. The principle remains close to that of a classic 2D printer with this major difference: it is the stacking of the layers that creates the volume.
3D printing has become more democratic in recent years, we can print in 3D in clubs or stores. And 3D printers are starting to be affordable, the first prices are around 300 euros.
