Previously, we digitized Flash Mac Queen from the Evolution range ( https://www.carrera-fun.com/?p=2810 ) but the latter did not have lights, which is a shame, because we cannot know the low fuel level with the flashing lights. And then it is always nicer to have the position lights, and the brake lights.
Having not found in the spare parts of the Carrera site, enough to acquire only the headlights, I turned to Leboncoin in search of these lights. After some time of research and patience, I finally found. So here I am in possession of my front and rear lights. All that remains is to install!
Here we go, for the disassembly, and it is relatively simple, you just have to remove the 4 screws under the chassis and lift the body.
The digital chip appears with the headlight connectors. At the time I wondered how to know where to connect the right lighting! But don’t panic, the connectors are different, so it’s impossible to make a mistake.
Note that there is only one connector for the rear lights and one for each front light. You just have to be careful to put the right ones at the front and at the back! The small support plates for each light are to be slid into each support at the front and at the back.
You have to put the cable side down as in the photo, and pass the wires well, avoiding the moving parts of the engine. On the connector side, take care to organize it well so that they fit well when you put the body back.
Another point to check carefully, at the back just behind the lights, you have the holes for the screws and body supports, be careful not to let the wire pass over it, otherwise, you risk pinching it when reassembling the body.
After replacing the four screws, Flash is ready for a test on the track.
“Ka-chow!” as Flash says in the movie while making a reflection on his car, the headlights turn on. The front headlights are very powerful, it looks like LED headlights (well they are LED headlights, but it looks like on real cars).
The rear lights are also perfect. Very powerful too, the light even passes through the bodywork, as you can see in the photo. I reassure you in the race, this is not visible. You can simply see large streaks of light on the track.
How can we talk about Flash without mentioning Cruz, his partner in the film Cars 3?
Fans of the first film will surely have the passage where a character asks why the racing cars don’t have headlights (which is the case of flash in the film). The answer is that the circuits are lit!!!
So the installation of these lights on our slot car paradoxically makes our vehicle less faithful to the film! But it’s so cool to see the headlights when there is less light in the room.
