Revell’s X-Treme Boat Catamaran

I’ve been dreaming of having a boat for a long time. It’s definitely a different driving sensation compared to a car. Cutting through the water’s surface, leaving a trail behind us. Motionless on the water, the boat rocked by the waves.

When I saw this catamaran displaying a speed of 30km/h, it caught my attention. Already for a car 30km/h is already good, not all radio-controlled cars reach this speed. On the water it’s harder to reach this speed, so it’s a guarantee of performance. It’s also part of the Revell X-TREME range, a guarantee of performance.

On the box, this boat looks great, Black, with its red stripes and silver windows.

When you discover the packaging, you are surprised by its small size. And yes, the boat is rather small. If you look at its dimensional characteristics 12.5cm wide is not huge. But a small ship is all the more impressive at the announced speeds.

When opening the box, it is confirmed, the boat is not big, but what a look!

Difficult to put it on the table with the rudder and its fins which are in the way and which I would not want to break or deform. So I look for the support of the boat that I saw in the photo on the back of the box. I find the 4 elements in a Craft pouch and assemble them quickly. All you have to do is fit the 4 elements into the 4 slots, and here is our support ready. The small Revell sticker with a silver background gives a luxurious touch to the support and we forget a little about the plastic side.

Now that our boat is safely resting on its support, let’s take a closer look.
At the back on the top, we can see two small levers that just need to be turned 90 to release the top cover.

After removing the cover, we discover a second cover, which we guess is waterproof because it is held firmly by 4 levers.

After removing the waterproof cover, we discover the interior.

Inside, we discover the engine, its transmission shaft up to the propeller, the steering servomotor (rudder), the battery and connectors, and a transparent pipe.

The battery

The battery is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-Ion type. It has a housing but to ensure its stability a scratch system fixes it firmly. Like all batteries of this type, it has 2 connectors. One to power the engine and the second for charging. The charging connector has a small cap to avoid contact with water in case liquid gets in.

The documentation indicates a low battery warning system, in order to bring the boat back to shore. However, as we have not yet launched the catamaran, we cannot tell you how it is performing.

The cooling system

Under the boat a small scoop allows water to be sucked up thanks to the speed of the boat. The water reaches the engine thanks to the transparent pipe. When it reaches the engine a coil goes around several times, then it is evacuated through an outlet on the left side of the hull.

The faster the engine turns, the faster the boat goes, and the more water it sucks up, and thus the engine is cooled more.

The transmission axis

The transmission shaft is used to transmit the rotation of the engine to the propeller. Revell is very careful to cool the interior, because remember that the engine heats up but also the battery. A small propeller has been placed on the shaft near the engine and this will have a fan effect and create a draft in the hull. The draft will absorb heat by passing near the engine, but will discharge calories by passing near the hull in contact with the water (which is cool).

Security system

To prevent injuries, a system prevents the propeller from starting if the boat is not in the water.

As we have not yet launched the catamaran, we cannot tell you how this system works.

Anti-capsize function

The documentation mentions an anti-capsize function and the remote control has a button.

As we have not yet launched the catamaran, we cannot tell you how this system works.

The remote control

The remote control is an important element because it is through it that you control the boat. It must be held well and its hold must be comfortable during the entire piloting.

The design is identical to the CROSS THUNDER from Revell that we tested recently.

It is a little bit smaller, and the steering wheel does not have foam. On the top there are 4 buttons. Two dedicated to the steering trim adjustment (neutral adjustment so that the boat sails straight), a button for anti-capsize and the last one to adjust the boat’s point speed.

This Revell catamaran has many advanced features. All that remains is to launch it, but I have not yet found a body of water. It is important to find a body of water where it is allowed to sail. It is not at all recommended to sail in salt water. Be careful on waterways with currents that could carry the boat away.
